What is Psoriasis?

Psoriasis is a medical condition in which body or skin starts developing an extra thick layer of cells which results in redness and itchiness on the surface skin. It is a chronic disease and has no cure. This disease is more common in adults. This disease develops mostly on hands, knee, legs, arms, feet, scalp or face. This disease is prone to environmental or weather change. 

Symptoms

i) Itching and burning of skin

ii) Red patches in skin

Causes

It can cause from the result of any of the following activity-

i) Excessive Smoking

ii) Deficiency of Vitamin D

iii) Infections on skin

iv) Excessive alcohol consumption.

vi) Sunburn

Types

i) Plaque:

This is the most common psoriasis. It can develop anywhere on the skin. It causes red dry patches around the infected area which leads to burning and rashes. 

ii) Nail

This occurs on fingernails or toenails which lead to abnormal growth of nails and redness around it. It may cause discoloration of the nails.

iii) Guttate

This is caused by a bacterial infection. This disease is very common in children and adults though the no. of people affected by this is very low. Red -patchy spots develop on the skin due to this disease. It usually does not leave marks.

iv) Inverse:

It is mostly caused by the immune system. It results in dry red patches on the skin. It is most likely to happen on the folding area of the skin where skin rubs against skin. It causes red, shiny rashes on the skin.

v) Erythrodermic

It is rarely seen. This is a very uncommon condition where red patches develop around the skin which causes instant burning. It covers your entire body.


vi) Pustular

This is another type of uncommon psoriasis which is developed in a small area of the body such as on fingertips, feet or neck. This is a very chronic skin disease that may occur most frequently.

Prevention

i) Stops the consumption of alcohol.
ii) Start taking vitamin supplements.
iii) Avoid red meat or beef.
iv) Meditate to become stress-free.
v) Increase in consumption of green vegetables.
vi) Consult dermatologist.
